1. Data we collect

Frienddix does not require an account. We process only the data needed to run the chat:

• the nickname and preferred language you choose;
• the messages you send, including the room code and the language you wrote in;
• automatic translations of messages, cached to speed up delivery.

2. Local storage

Your nickname, language, and an anonymous device identifier are saved in your browser's localStorage so you don't have to re-enter them. This data never leaves your device except as part of the messages you send, and you can delete it at any time by clearing your browser data.

3. Cookies and consent

Frienddix does not use advertising, analytics, or profiling cookies, and no data is shared with advertising networks. Only technical storage strictly necessary for the service to function (the nickname, language, device identifier, and room place described above) is used. Under the ePrivacy rules this storage does not require consent, so the notice shown on first visit is informational; your choice is remembered locally.

4. Legal basis and retention

We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest in delivering the chat you asked for. Messages are readable only while the room is open and for 24 hours after they are sent. Automatic cleanup runs once every 24 hours at 00:07 UTC and deletes messages older than 24 hours, their cached translations, and associated translation requests. Records may remain stored until the next daily cleanup (normally less than 48 hours after sending), even though expired messages are no longer available to read. Each room displays a countdown during the 10 minutes before cleanup. This countdown concerns eligible messages, not deletion of every message in the room. Local preferences stay on your device until you clear them; the cleanup does not clear technical cookies or local storage and requires no additional cookie consent.

Frienddix is not intended for children under 16. If you are under that age, please do not use the service without the consent of a parent or guardian.

6. Third-party services and transfers

Messages are translated using free machine-translation services (LibreTranslate and MyMemory) and an artificial-intelligence service that reviews and refines the result: the text you send is processed solely to produce the translation and is not used to build advertising profiles. These providers may process the text on servers outside the European Economic Area, under the safeguards offered by their own terms.

Messages are also checked automatically by an anti-spam filter that blocks links, email addresses, repeated texts, and known spam content before publication. This check happens automatically and is not used for profiling.

7. Visibility of messages and rooms

Anything you write in a room is visible to everyone who has the room's link or code. Room codes may be listed publicly on the home page after a room is created, including when nobody is currently online. The directory shows each room's live participant count and the number of messages still visible within the 24-hour window, so anyone can select and join a listed room. Never share personal, sensitive, or confidential information in chat.

You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, and object to the processing of your data, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because Frienddix does not hold accounts. Clearing your browser storage removes local preferences, but does not delete messages already sent. Messages become unavailable to read after 24 hours and are deleted at the next daily cleanup described above. You may also contact the data controller at the email above to request earlier deletion of messages linked to your nickname.
